Subject: American Legion Family of New Mexico

Thank you for the honor of being the Department Commander of New Mexico. Last year I had the Privilege of visiting Department of Milwaukee. At one of their parks, there was a sign that said "To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow and for his orphan.” If you think about it, caring for veterans and their families describes the mission of the American Legion. I believe we have no better calling then calling on veterans, the Buddy Checks, and contacting the families to prevent veterans from taking their own lives.

The men and women who actively participate in this wonderful organization are some of the finest people I've ever met. The American Legion Family is starting to come closer by working together as a Team. There is no I in team. We still have a lot of work to do; we cannot stop now. Let's keep pushing. Communication is one of the issues that was stated over and over again at Convention. Myself and Department Vice Commanders are working on a plan to fix this. It won't be easy, but at least we are starting somewhere.

First of all, I want to thank Stephen Lee for the wonderful work he is doing on the website. He has my authorization to publish any social media that is good for the American Legion Family, and a key person on setting up the communication line for the state. Soon the 5 area vice-commanders can zoom meet with the Department Commander, the DEC, Post Commanders as well as District Commanders. Wish us luck as we try to fix Communication.

Again thank You Stephen Lee, our efforts will truly make a difference in the lives of family and veterans. Good luck in the future as we attain even greater heights.
